Orchestra of the State Theatre on Gartnerplatz

The orchestra of the State Theatre on Gartnerplatz is one of Munich’s most important orchestras. In line with the mission of the Gartnerplatz Theatre to present musical theatre in all its diversity, the orchestra’s repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary compositions and, with opera, operetta, musical and ballet, covers all the genres of musical theatre. The orchestra, which is made up of 77 musicians and which was raised to the ranking of an A-class orchestra in 2003, also makes regular appearances in concerts and in concert performances of stage works. In 2006, 2008 and 2012, the orchestra was host to the ‘Gartnerplatz Open Air’ concert series. In addition, the musicians of the orchestra have, since 2000, organised a chamber music series which has moved to Munich’s City Museum whilst the main building is being refurbished.  The orchestra has also made guest appearances in Germany and abroad.
